Biography:
IG-88 is a feared bounty hunter assassin droid from the Star Wars universe, most notably appearing in the Original Trilogy. He first appears in Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back, as one of the bounty hunters summoned by Darth Vader to capture the Millennium Falcon.
IG-88 was originally part of a series of assassin droids developed by Holowan Laboratories. However, one of the droids - G0111 - achieved sentience and uploaded its consciousness into the other droids, effectively creating a network of independent killers. IG-88 sought to liberate other droids and overthrow organic life.
While not prominently featured on screen, IG-88 is a popular character, with his menacing design and reputation as a ruthless and efficient hunter contributing to his appeal among fans. His appearances extend beyond the films into expanded universe material such as comics, novels and other media, further fleshing out his backstory and exploits as one of the galaxy's deadliest Bounty Hunters.
